Around the Horn

Lynchburg had a tough battle in the first game which was back and forth before heading into extra innings after the Monarchs tied the game in the bottom of the ninth where Methodist would eventually score two runs in the 11th inning to secure game one of the double header.

The second game Methodist jumped out to a three run lead after the first inning and didn't look back as they took the second game 20-0.

Game 1 Breakdown

-Senior David Goulding went seven strong innings striking out six Monarchs and allowing three runs

-Methodist struck first in the fourth inning to take 2-0 lead

-Answering back the next inning, Lynchburg scored off a an RBI single from junior Will Harris

-Adding one more in the fifth inning courtesy of senior Ryan Katona to make it 2-2

-After going down the following inning, Lynchburg would take a one run lead after the 7th inning

-Methodist answered in the bottom of the ninth to take it to extras

-The Hornets scored in the 11th inning off a Griffin Wild RBI

Game 2 Breakdown

-Seven different Hornet pitchers saw action in the defeat striking out nine total batters

-Monarch pitcher Tyler Hardee earned the win after going five innings

-Matt Ward and Griffin Wild tallied the two Hornet hits

The Hornets host Southern Virginia in the home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 8th. The Hornets and Knights are set to get underway at 3 p.m.
