Around the Horn

After falling behind in the second inning 1-0, the Hornets scored 7 unanswered runs to secure its first victory of the season Wednesday evening. Lynchburg was led by starting pitcher Zack Englemann who threw 7 strong innings, striking out five Knights .

Game Breakdown

- Southern Va. scored in the top of the second inning off a single to center field  

- Lynchburg answered back in the fifth inning with five runs

- The first run came off a Matt Ward single down the left field line, scoring senior Ryan Katona

- Later in the inning, sophomore Nathan Sharp had a bases loaded triple which scored three Hornets

- Junior Will Harris capped of the inning with a single to score Sharp

- The Hornets weren't done as juniors Matt Ward and Luke Rodgers added two RBIs in the bottom of the eighth inning

- Sophomore Ryan Irby and freshman Cody Martin came in relief to pitch two scoreless innings, only allowing two hits to secure the victory
