Around the Horn

The Hornets had a roller coaster day, going down 5-1 in both games against Penn St.-Harrisburg before staging late inning rallies to pull out two victories on Saturday. The Hornets won the first game on a walk-off single by junior Will Harris and a four-run 5th inning helped the Hornets edge the Lions in Game 2.

Game 1 Breakdown

- Freshman Shawn Allen went 2-3 in his first start of the year, including a single that started the rally in the bottom of the 7th

- Sophomore Griffin Wild got the start at shortstop, going 2-4 with a run

- Junior Matt Ward and sophomore Nathan Sharp both went 1-3 but pitched in with one RBI each

- Harris, the walkoff hero, went 2-3 with his lone RBI clinching the victory for the Hornet

- Junior Jacob Flora got the win while sophomore Matthew Kane held the Lions scoreless in a solid inning of work

Game 2 Breakdown

- Senior Will Hylton went a perfect 2-2 in the second game with a walk and RBI

- Freshman Shawn Allen continued his success into the second game tallying an RBI and two walks while fellow freshman Colin Corey had a pinch hit RBI in the bottom of the 5th, later scoring himself

- Sophomore Jake Conner picked up his second win on the season while freshman Cody Martin tossed a fabulous inning to earn his first save in 2017

The Hornets look to continue their winning ways with another doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 19th, hosting the Pride of Greensboro College. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. on Fox Field.
