Around the Horn

The Hornets pulled out on top in the fifth inning with a 4-2 lead before Roanoke scored nine combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings to defeat Lynchburg 14-9.

Game Breakdown

- Roanoke put up a triple in the opening inning to bring home a run which was then followed with a sacrifice fly out to left field to bring home another run to make it 2-0

- In the second inning, Lynchburg scored with a single by senior Ryan Katona sending junior Luke Rodgers home from second base, closing the gap 2-1

- In the fifth inning, Lynchburg tied the game when sophomore Nathan Sharp brought home freshman Shawn Allen

 - In the same inning, Rodgers hit a double to centerfield and brought home junior Matt Ward and Sharp, giving the Hornets a 4-2 lead
 - Roanoke stole the lead in the seventh inning with five hits and five runs bringing the score to 8-5.

- In the eighth inning, the Maroons drove four more players home to make it 12-6

- The Hornets quickly responded and with a triple from senior Will Hylton driving home junior Dallas Johnson and Katona.

- With Hylton on third base, sophomore Thomas Powell hit a sacrifice fly ball out to centerfield allowing Hylton to put one more up on the board for a score of 12-9

- To secure the victory, the Maroons put up two more runs in the ninth
