Charlottesville, Va. -- The Lynchburg College equestrian team traveled to Charlottesville, Va. for the second straight day, where they kicked off the first IHSA postseason show at the Zone 4 Region 2 Championships, hosted by the University of Virginia at The Barracks Farm, and the Hornets won a banner day at the show.
Senior Christina Antonucci (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) was named the Zone 4 Region 2 High-Point Rider for the third year in a row. The senior won Open Flat and Open Fences and will continue on to compete at the Zone 4 championships in both classes. She will also move on to compete in the Cacchione Cup, the award for best overall rider, at the Zone 4 championships.
Sophomore Dani Herzberg (Beachwood, Ohio) was the first rider to represent the Hornets on the day. Herzberg earned a fourth-place finish aboard Tyler in Novice Flat. Herzberg also qualified for Novice Fences, putting in a solid round on Snowie but finishing just outside of the top two in third place.
Senior CarolAnne Bekus (Hillsborough, N.J.), who qualified for regionals in Intermediate Flat, also put in a strong ride. The senior finished in third against a tough field of riders, just missing the cutoff.
The Zone 4 championships, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Sedgefield Showground in Greensboro, N.C., will take place Saturday, April 7.
