Golf tied for ninth after Day 1 at Greene Turtle

Winchester, Va. -- Lynchburg College's men's golf team played its way to a tie for ninth place after the first day of the Greene Turtle Invitational at Winchester Country Club, hosted Sunday by Shenandoah University.

The Hornets shot 32-over 316 on the day, pushing them to a tie with Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Bridgewater for ninth place.

Justin Wimmer (Vinton, Va.) led the way for Lynchburg, firing a 7-over 78 after birdieing two of the first three holes. Wimmer sits in a tie for 22nd among the individual leaders.

Josh Irby (Clover, Va.) and Joel Choi (Vienna, Va.) broke 80 for the Hornets as well, each shooting 79.

The Hornets will wrap up the tournament with another 18 holes at Winchester Country Club Monday.
