Winchester, Va. -- After a much-improved second day of competition, Lynchburg College's men's golf team leapt a spot into eighth place to finish the Greene Turtle Classic, hosted by Shenandoah University at Winchester Country Club.
Lynchburg's second-day team score of 302 helped the Hornets jump The Apprentice School in the standings, and the Hornets finished three strokes ahead of the Builders for eighth. LC was 11 strokes behind host Shenendoah and Virginia Wesleyan, which tied for sixth.
Lynchburg cleaned up its play on the tournament's second round, led by Branson Terrell's (Lynchburg, Va.) 2-over 73. Justin Wimmer (Vinton, Va.) led the team for the tournament, following his first-day 78 with a Monday 74 to finish at 10-over. Josh Petrillo, competing unattached for the tournament, also finished 10 over through 36 holes.
Josh Irby (Clover, Va.) also fired a 74 on Monday, carding in at 11 over par for the tournament.
The Hornets head to Rosemont, Pa., for the Montgomery Cup this weekend. First- and second-round action is Saturday, and LC has the opportunity to qualify for Sunday match play as well.
