Golf places fourth at Lynchburg College Invitational

Amherst, Va. -- The Lynchburg College golf team played to fourth place at the annual Lynchburg College Invitational at Poplar Grove Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Lynchburg finished fourth in its own tournament with a two-day total of 621 (305-316), finishing only behind North Carolina Wesleyan (603), Methodist (611), and Pfeiffer (617), and a stroke ahead of fifth-place Averett. A total of 13 teams competed in the tournament.

Senior Josh Irby (Clover, Va.) led the tournament for LC, carding a 3-over 75 Monday and a 2-over 74 Tuesday to tie for fourth in the field.

Junior Branson Terrell (Lynchburg, Va.) also carded a top-15 finish, shooting 76-77--153.

Sophomore Carter Old (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman Josh Petrillo (Leesburg, Va.) also contributed scores for the Hornets, finishing at 158 (77-81) and 161 (77-84), respectively.

Lynchburg was tied with Methodist for the tournament lead after Monday's action.

The Hornets will start a busy week on Friday, April 6 with a trip to The D3 Match Play tournament in Greensboro, N.C., and LC will head directly to Williamsburg, Va., for The Apprentice School's Glenn Health Shipbuilders Memorial on April 9-10.
