Browns Summit, N.C. -- The Lynchburg College golf team played to an eighth-place finish at Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships Sunday and Monday at the Bryan Park Golf Club outside of Greensboro, N.C., finishing the 54-hole tournament with a score of 324-320-311--955.
It was Lynchburg's lowest three-round total at the event since the 2010-11 season.
Senior Josh Irby (Clover, Va.) was the model of consistency over the three rounds, carding a 78-74-76--228 to place 18th, leading the way for LC. Irby carded a team-high eight birdies at the tournament.
Sophomore Carter Old (Chesapeake, Va.) also finished in the top 30, shooting 80-79-75--234 to finish in a tie for 26th. Old carded his lowest nine holes of the tournament on his final nine to close on a strong note.
Junior Branson Terrell (Lynchburg, Va.), sophomore Russell Markley (Remington, Va.), and sophomore Justin Wimmer (Vinton, Va.) each counted rounds of 80 or below toward the Lynchburg cause as well. Each finished in the top 45 for the tournament.
The Quakers of Guilford carried the tournament (289-292-282--863), winning by 13 strokes over second-place Washington and Lee. Guilford's Addison Manring won the individual title, carding a 4-under-par 212 over the three rounds.
