Golf takes seventh at rain-shortened Greene Turtle

Front Royal, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's golf team successfully teed off the 2018-19 season with an 11-over-par 291 Monday in the rain-shortened Greene Turtle Invitational, hosted by Shenandoah University at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.

The Hornets finished seventh in the 16-team field.

Senior Branson Terrell (Lynchburg, Va.) led the way for Lynchburg, firing an even-par 70 on the 6,063-yard track to finish tied for fifth. It was his first-career top-five finish.

Junior Carter Old (Chesapeake, Va.) also finished in the top 20, tying for 18th with a 2-over 72. Junior Justin Wimmer (Vinton, Va.) followed with a 3-over 73, while freshmen Harry Hodgert (Lynchburg, Va.) and Ben Ailsworth (Lynchburg, Va.) each carded scores of 76 in their Hornets debuts.

Competing unattached, freshman Evan Mason (Keysville, Va.) shot 84.

Guilford won the team title with a 1-over 281 for the tournament.

The Quakers' Josh Hill and Bridgewater's AJ Stouffer shared medalist honors as each shot 3-under 67.

Originally scheduled as a two-day, 36-hole event at Winchester Country Club, Sunday's competition was rained out, and the tournament moved to Shenandoah Valley for Monday's play.
