From the Face-Off

The Hornets opened their 2017 season against the defending national champions and #1 Salisbury Seagulls on Saturday. The game featured two stout defenses and the two offenses went back and forth but a late Lynchburg made for an interesting finish as the Seagulls held on in a great opening game.

Game Breakdown

- Salisbury scored first during the 11th minute from Nathan Blondino

- Lynchburg would answer back five minutes later with a goal from Evan Lombardo

- Both teams exchanged a combined four goals to make it even at three with 1:56 left in Q1

-  An unassisted Kevin Rodgers goal with 1:13 left in the first quarter gave the Hornets a 4-3 lead

- Salisbury scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead with 1:56 remaining in the half

- Harrison Brennan fed Daniel Owens just three minutes into the second half to tie the game at six

- Salisbury would notch a goal with just five minutes left in third quarter to go back up 7-6

- Colin McGuire brought the Hornets back to within one goal off an assist from Brennan at the 12:27 mark of quarter four

- Nearly seven minutes of scoreless play went by before Salisbury extended its lead back to two goals with 5:14 remaining

- Brennan got the Lynchburg faithful to their feet at the 3:32 mark when he scored his second goal of the game
