Men's lacrosse falls short against No. 7 Cabrini

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team's comeback effort fell just short to No. 7 Cabrini on Saturday afternoon as the Hornets dropped a 16-15 slugfest between ranked clubs.

Junior attack Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) lead the game with five goals, six ground balls, and one assists. Sophomore midfielder Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.) and junior attack Andrew Thomas (Roswell, Ga.) each added two goals for the Hornets. Senior goalie CJ Santora had 14 saves in the net.



Final: No. 7 Cabrini 16, No. 16 Lynchburg 15

Records: Lynchburg 0-3, Cabrini 2-0

Venue: Cabrini University, Dixon Field, Radnor, Pa.



  • Cabrini started the game out strong scoring the first two goals. Rogers collected his first unassisted goal and got Lynchburg on the board. Cabrini answered back with two more goals ending the first quarter ahead 4-1.

  • Lynchburg turned it up in the second quarter, scoring four consecutive goals from four different players giving the Hornets a one-point lead. The Cavaliers managed to come back and end the half 8-6 over the Hornets.

  • The Hornets closed the gap again early in the third quarter after goals from Lombardo and Seamus McDonald (Far Hills, N.J.) to give the Hornets a 9-8 lead. Lynchburg struggled to keep their lead and Cabrini ended the quarter 14-10 over the Hornets.

  • Down by four, Lynchburg once again tied up the game, 15-15, after an unassisted goal by Lombardo with just a minute left. The Hornets put up a solid defense, but Cavalier Jordan Krug assisted by Ty Kostack scored the winning goal for Cabrini with 24 seconds left to play.


The Hornets will back in Lynchburg to host the ONE LOVE game on Saturday March 3 at 1 p.m. against the York College Spartans.
