Bronxville, N.Y. -- Lynchburg College men's lacrosse senior Stephen Ruppel (Catonsville, Md.) has been selected as one of three men's Division III finalists for the YRL Unsung Hero Award by the One Love Foundation, the nonprofit announced this week.

The One Love Foundation is an organization dedicated to awareness and elimination of relationship violence, founded in memory of former University of Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love.

Ruppel, the president of Lynchburg's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was at the center of Lynchburg's One Love initiative, taking the lead on the athletic department-wide workshop with the foundation that took place in Turner Gymnasium at the beginning of the fall semester. He has continued to be active with the organization, dedicating time and effort toward its cause and several other service efforts of the Lynchburg SAAC.

There will be a total of six award winners, one male and one female from each NCAA division (I, II, and III). Winners of the award will receive a Tiffany bowl and a $250 donation to a charity of their choice.

The winners will be announced later in the month of May.
