Men’s soccer triumphant as Mitchell scores twice

Lynchburg celebrates a 3-1 victory over TCNJ.

Salem, Va. -- Sherman Mitchell (Southbury, Conn.) scored twice to lead Lynchburg College's men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at the Roanoke College Kick-off.

Nate Berning (Chesapeake, Va.) also scored for Lynchburg, and Dylan McLaurin (Stafford, Va.) made four saves for the Hornets in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- TCNJ took an early lead in the fifth minute, but Berning countered with an unassisted score in the 34th minute.

- Mitchell gave the Hornets the lead just before halftime, when he headed Jon Mackey's (Leesburg, Va.) feed into the nylon in 41st minute.

- Mitchell added some late insurance with an 88th-minute score assisted by Fredy Flores (Alexandria, Va.).

 

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will return to Roanoke College tomorrow to face off with Penn State-Abington at noon.
