Men's soccer draws VWU to end regular season

Virginia Beach, Va. -- Despite edging host Virginia Wesleyan in every offensive category, Lynchburg College's men's soccer team was unable to break through, finishing in a 0-0 draw to wrap up the Old Dominion Athletic Conference season on Tuesday evening.

Lynchburg will remain atop the ODAC standings despite the draw, which ended the Hornets' 11-game win streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Lynchburg out-shot the Marlins 20-8 in the contest, including a 10-3 advantage in the category in the first half, but the Hornets were unable to break through. VWU keeper Jamison Auer made nine key saves in the match.

- Hornets' keeper Dylan McLaurin (Stafford, Va.) was no slouch minding the net either. The junior made three saves to record his seventh shutout of the season.

- Lynchburg's best chance to score came in the 24th minute when senior Fredy Flores (Alexandria, Va.) was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Auer saved the shot, however, and the match stayed scoreless.

- It was a hard-fought, physical match, with nine cards awarded in the match.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg has secured the top seed in the upcoming ODAC tournament and will play host to the bracket. The Hornets will begin their defense of the conference title against No. 8-seeded Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. The conference semifinals and finals will be played the following weekend.
