Cross Country Competes at VT Alumni Meet

Blacksburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed at the Virginia Tech Alumni Meet on Friday evening.

Lynchburg was the only non-Division 1 school in attendance as other teams included Longwood, Liberty, Akron and VMI.

Senior Andrew Osborne led the men in the 8k race finishing in a time of 26:05.4 earning him a top 25 finish. Both senior Drew Smith and sophomore Josh Shaw finished in the top 50 with respective times of 26:39.90 and 26:46.50 while finished just outside the top 50 by two seconds crossing the line at 27:05.30. Freshman Justin Dorner-Thomas rounded out the Lynchburg scoring with a 53rd place finish and a time of 27:45.40.

Other Hornet runners included senior Ben Stern (27:47.40), senior Jacob Fleck (28:45.10), junior Levi Rees (28:51.40), freshman Reid Sharkey (28:53.80), and freshman Ethan Batchelor (29:24.40).

The women were led by sophomore Samantha Schreiber in the 6k who joined Osbourne in finishing in the top 25 as she finished in 23:11.80. Sophmore Morgan Alvis (24:00:10), freshman Michela Cholak (24:37:30), and junior Jenna Hyde (25:28:20) finished in the top 50 while junior Camille McCarthy rounded out the scoring for Lynchburg with a time of 30:10.50.

The cross country teams return to the trail when they head to Lehigh, Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1.
