Around the Horn

The Hornets opened their 2017 season at William Peace where they split a double header, losing 2-1 in game one but bounced back winning big 17-2 (5 innings) in game two.

Game 1 Breakdown

- Lynchburg scored in the first inning off a Taylor Maby groundball that scored Kayla Hugate off an error

- The Pacers bounced back with two runs in the fifth inning off a Hornet error

- Connor English got the nod and lasted five innings, striking out five

- Stephanie Hogan came in for relief to finish the game for Lynchburg

Game 2 Breakdown

-  In the first inning, Lynchburg scored seven runs courtesy of RBIs from Mackenzie Chitwood, Lauren Smith, Skylar Dicken, Hugate, and Logan Walker

- The Hornets added four more runs in the second inning to make it 11-0

- Insurance runs were added in the third inning to make it 15-0

-William Peace notched two runs in the fourth inning to cut into the Lynchburg lead

- The Hornets sealed the deal in the fifth inning with two more runs to mercy rule the Pacers, 17-2

- Three different Lynchburg pitchers saw action with Mabry earning the victory

On Deck

The Hornets travel to Methodist next Saturday, Feb. 18 for a double header that is set for a 1 p.m. start.
