New Orleans, La. -- University of Lynchburg's women's track & field team didn't just claim an Old Dominion Athletic Conference outdoor championship in 2018; the Hornets excelled in the classroom, too.

Lynchburg's women were one of 185 NCAA Division III programs honored as a 2018 USTFCCCA All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Team on Thursday, and two Hornets earned individual nods on the coaches' organization's All-Academic squad.

Graduate student Natalie Deacon (West Chester, Pa.) and sophomore Michela Cholak (Ocean Township, N.J.) met the requirements for the individual honor -- at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and finishing in the top 50 nationally in an event.

Deacon, who is pursuing her master's in nonprofit leadership studies, was an All-American in the indoor 1-mile and was also a top-50 performer in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run and outdoor 1,500-meter run.

Cholak, an exercise physiology major, finished the year ranked 40th in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase. She was all-region in the event.

Lynchburg's women's track & field team carried an even 3.3 team GPA this year, well above the 3.0 threshold required to be an All-Academic Team. The program won its ninth conference championship this season.
