Naumann and DeFrancesco lead LC Women's Basketball to 75-65 Win over Stevens Tech
GREENSBORO, NC – Sophomores Caroline Naumann and Olivia DeFrancesco combined for 37 points Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team defeated The Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ) 75-65 in the opening game of the Guilford College Classic. Stevens Tech advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season and finished the year 22-5.
After the two teams each put 16 points on the scoreboard in the first period, LC used a 23-11 second quarter to go ahead 39-27 at halftime. The Ducks cut the advantage to four (52-48) near the end of the third period, and trailed just 62-59 with 5:46 remaining in the contest. The LC defense allowed just six points in the final six minutes to pull away for the victory.
Naumann posted a career-high 19 points, hitting eight of her 15 shots from the field. DeFrancesco nailed 6-of-10 from three-point land and fell just one three-pointer short of the school record for threes in a game. She added three steals.
Kaitlyn Astel scored a team-best 16 points for the Ducks (0-2) with six rebounds and four assists, while Megan Brown had 13 points and eight boards. Miranda Ripken also had 13 points.
The Hornets (2-1) return to action at Guilford Sunday at noon against Denison University.
