LCWB Rolls to 87-33 win over Hollins – Clinch #1 Seed in ODAC Tournament
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team posted an 87-33 win Saturday over Hollins University to clinch the top spot in the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament for the first time in program history. The program's three seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
The Hornets and the other top four seeds receive a first-round bye and advance directly to the Salem Civic Center for the quarterfinal round. Lynchburg will play at 1 p.m. against the winner of the #8 Roanoke College/#9 Virginia Wesleyan College contest on Monday. The semifinals and finals will take place Saturday and Sunday in the single-elimination event to earn the conference's automatic NCAA Division III Tournament bid.
Lynchburg opened a quick double-figure lead against Hollins Saturday, going ahead 22-8 after one quarter. The Hornets used an 18-0 run between the first and second periods to forge a 36-8 lead late in the second stanza and never looked back.
Junior guard Charmaine Hairston scored a game-high 19 points with two three pointers. Caroline Naumann posted 14 points with seven rebounds, while Chaney Forbush collected 14 points. Sammi Goldsmith had seven assists and Sarah Coronel tallied eight points and nine rebounds. Chrissy Jacksta came off the bench to score eight points.
Sally Sorge had a team-high 10 points for Hollins (3-21/0-16). Nikki Valencia had eight points before fouling out and Deana Campbell grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
LC shot 47 percent (29-62) for the game compared to Hollins 19 percent (12-62). The Hornets had a 53-34 advantage in rebounding.
