Women's basketball avenges lone ODAC loss, beats EMU

Harrisonburg, Va. -- Senior guard Olivia DeFrancesco led the way with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team avenged its only conference loss of the season with a 54-41 victory over host Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) added 10 points and 13 rebounds, while junior wing Alex Allen (China Grove, N.C.) added 10 points and nine boards in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory.

Lynchburg also got nine points and six rebounds from senior forward Caroline Naumann (Mechanicsville, Va.) and four points and 11 boards from senior forward Brittany Afolabi-Brown (Montgomery Village, Md.).

The Hornets have now won seven straight games.

Jess Washington led EMU with a 10-point, 12-rebound effort.

- Lynchburg took a 5-2 lead on Naumann's 3-pointer just over 2 minutes into the game and never relinquished the lead. LC led 20-8 after the first period and 28-19 at intermission behind 10 points from DeFrancesco.

- EMU cut the lead significantly with a 12-1 run around the halftime break and kept the deficit in single digits most of the third period. The Royals got as close as three points.

- Lynchburg pulled off an 11-0 run to start the fourth, effectively putting the game out of reach.



Lynchburg returns home on Tuesday evening to play host to ODAC foe Emory & Henry at 7 p.m.
