Wilmington, N.C. -- Lynchburg College's women's tennis team stepped up to a big challenge this past weekend, heading to UNC Wilmington to take on a number of scholarship programs in the Seahawk National Invitational.
Hornets sophomore Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) proved she belonged right away, taking down a pair of scholarship-program players in Coastal Carolina's Jessie Mount, 7-6 (9), 6-2, and UNCW's Celeste Matute, 6-4, 6-4.
Harris and doubles partner Halle Lavieri (Killingworth, Conn.) also competed against the stacked field, fighting hard in three matches.
"They had a great time down there," Lynchburg head coach Chris Johnson said of the pair, "and were able to play against some of the best competition we'll see this season."
The Seahawk National wrapped up the fall portion of Lynchburg's tennis schedule. The Hornets will hit the courts again in 2018.
