Women's tennis dominates at WildCat Fall Invite

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team kicked off the 2018-19 season with an impressive showing across town at Randolph College's WildCat Fall Invite, going a combined 15-3 for the daylong tournament.

The Hornets took top honors in four of the six singles flights and two of the three doubles brackets. Randolph, Sweet Briar, and Pfeiffer also took part in the day's action.

Junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) led the way for Lynchburg, winning the Flight 1 singles title and pairing with sophomore Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) to win the top doubles flight as well.

Druebbisch was victorious in singles Flight 4 without dropping a set, as were freshman Alissa Anderson (Norfolk, Va.) in Flight 2 and sophomore Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.) in Flight 5.

Senior Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) won two matches in Flight 6 before falling in the championship, while senior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.) won the Flight 3 consolation.

Coon and Altenburg teamed up for a doubles Flight 3 title.

Lynchburg's women will hit the courts again Saturday, Sept. 22 in two separate locations, with part of the team heading for Fredericksburg, Va., and Mary Washington's ITA Regional Championship, while the rest of the Hornets will travel to Mary Baldwin for a dual match.
