Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College equestrian team traveled to the Randolph College Riding Center, kicking off the spring season with a tie for a fifth-place team finish.
Sophomore Dani Herzberg (Beachwood, Ohio) led the way, qualifying for Zone 4 Region 2 Regionals in Novice Flat. Herzberg finished third to earn well over the one point she needed to qualify. She also rode in Intermediate Fences, finishing fourth.
The day began with senior Christina Antonucci (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) securing a second-place finish in Open Flat and also second in Open Fences. Senior CarolAnne Bekus (Hillsborough, N.J.) soon followed, earning a fifth in Intermediate Fences.
Missy Green (Vienna, Va.), Gina Romano (Chester, N.J.), Claire Keeling (Managua, NICARAGUA), and Katy Riechers (McLean, Va.) all put in strong rides in the Novice Division, with Romano finishing as reserve champion over fences.
During the second half of the day, Julia Cavagna (Stafford, Va.) and Christy Lemay (Midlothian, Va.) both finished fourth in their respective sections of Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter. In Walk/Trot, Erika Hadland (Moseley, Va.) ended the show with a third-place finish for the Hornets.
