Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg athletics and head equestrian coach Justine Betzler are excited to announce the Hornets' 2019-20 equestrian schedule.
As in 2018-19, Lynchburg will compete in both Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association and National Collegiate Equestrian Association competition, though Lynchburg joins the latter as a full member in the upcoming season.
The NCEA season kicks off first for Lynchburg as the Hornets will play host to Fresno State Saturday, Sept. 21. The Bulldogs finished the 2018-19 season ranked No. 9 in the NCEA top 10.
Lynchburg will remain home Friday, Oct. 4 for a match with NCEA newcomer SUNY New Paltz.
All of Lynchburg's home events will be held at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center in Amherst, Va.
The IHSA season begins in October as well. Lynchburg will travel to Hollins University in Roanoke Saturday, Oct. 12 for their first show of the season. Two shows follow the next weekend, Oct. 19 at Bridgewater College and Oct. 20 at home for the Lynchburg Fall IHSA.
Away dates round out both the NCEA and IHSA fall schedules for the Hornets.
IHSA competition ramps up again in February with the Washington and Lee IHSA Feb. 8 before Lynchburg's spring show the following Saturday, Feb. 15. Trips to Bridgewater and University of Virginia finish out the February schedule.
March takes the Hornets' NCEA squad west for a Spring Break trip to California, where Lynchburg will take on Fresno State, UC Davis and Southern Methodist during the roadtrip.
Postseason competition begins in late March on the IHSA side, with the Zone 4 Region 2 championship show set for March 21 at Hollins. Zone championships come two weeks later, April 4, at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C., followed by the IHSA national championships, April 30-May 3 in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference's equestrian championships are scheduled for Friday, April 10, hosted by Sweet Briar College at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center.
NCEA postseason competition is set for April 15-18 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
