Winchester, Va. -- Behind a runner-up performance from Harry Hodgert, University of Lynchburg's men's golf team opened the 2019-20 season with a second-place finish at the Greene Turtle Invitational, hosted by Shenandoah University.
Lynchburg carded a two-round total of 606 Sunday and Monday, finishing nine strokes behind tournament winner Bridgewater and four ahead of third-place Ferrum on the par-71, 6,367-yard track at Winchester Country Club.
Hodgert, a sophomore, finished in a tie for second on the individual leaderboard, following his Sunday 71 with a 3-over 74 on Monday for a collegiate-best two-round total of 145.
Freshman Noah Siman (79-77--156) also scored both days for the Hornets and finished tied for 22nd.
Lynchburg's men's golf team will be back in action early next week, heading for Harrisonburg's Lakeview Golf Club Sept. 16-17 for the Tom Kinder Memorial, hosted by Bridgewater College.
