Flowery Branch, Ga. -- University of Lynchburg's men's golf team rebounded from a tough first round with a solid second to finish in a tie for 16th Monday and Tuesday at the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe University at Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club.
The Hornets posted a team score of 317 on the par-72, 6,826-yard track in Monday's first round but followed with a 293 on the final day to finish 39 over par for the tournament, tied with Millsaps for 16th.
Senior Carter Old was the only Lynchburg player to finish in the top 50, shooting rounds of 72 and 76 (148 total) to place in a tie for 41st.
Sophomore Harry Hodgert rebounded from a tough 89 on Day 1 to shoot even par Tuesday and finish with a 36-hole total of 161.
LaGrange's Ben Womack won medalist honors, shooing 8-under-par 136 for the tournament, while Hampden-Sydney bested Guilford by seven strokes for the team crown.
Lynchburg's men's golf program will hit the links again October 14-15 at the Virginia State Golf Association Intercollegiate at Blacksburg Country Club in Blacksburg. The Hornets have finished in the tournament's top eight each of the past two seasons.
