Greenwood, Ind. — The College Sports Information Directors of America named University of Lynchburg senior Jack Ashby to its Academic All-District men's soccer team in NCAA Division III's District 5, the organization announced Thursday.
Ashby, a biomedical science major, carries a 3.77 cumulative GPA to go with his two goals and two assists this season. The Lewes, Del., native was one of three midfielders and 11 total players included on the District 5 team, which includes Division III programs in the South from Virginia, south to Puerto Rico and west to Missouri.
In addition to his fine work on the pitch — he is a team captain, two-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference, and one-time all-region midfielder for the Hornets — Ashby is a research assistant, housing group leader, and volunteers with needy families in the Lynchburg community at the Park View Mission.
He has sights set on dental school after graduation and has completed multiple internships in the field. Ashby will graduate with a business minor.
The Academic All-District honor makes Ashby eligible for CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams, voted on by CoSIDA members nationwide. The Division III teams will be announced in early December.
Ashby and the Hornet men's soccer team will look to extend the 2019 season in Friday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament semifinal at 4 p.m. at Hampden-Sydney.
