Louisville, Ky. -- University of Lynchburg's softball program continues to rack up awards from an historic 2018-19 season, this time in the classroom.
Four Hornets -- Taylor Belknap, Olivia Herman, Kayla Hugate, and Carol Oberhelman -- earned the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete designation, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced this week.
The quartet were among more than 8,000 student-athletes to earn the distinction for 2018-19 and 1,928 in NCAA Division III. Student-athletes must carry a GPA of 3.5 or better for the year to be included on the award list.
Lynchburg's entire team got the job done when it came to schoolwork last academic year, finishing with a 3.324 team GPA, a mark that ranked 88th in Division III.
On the field, Lynchburg finished the season 37-15 -- the second-best mark in program history -- and reached the NCAA Division III Super Regional round for the first time ever.
