Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Erin Green and Meredith Vetter each scored 13 points to lead University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team to a 70-26 throttling of Hood Friday afternoon in the Hornets' opening game at the Daytona Beach Shootout.
The defensive effort was the second-best in program history for the Hornets (6-3) in terms of scoring output -- reliable records date back to the 1982-83 season for the team -- and the fewest points that Lynchburg allowed since a 1988 victory over Randolph-Macon Woman's College in which the team yielded just 23 points.
Vetter's 13 points marked a career-high for the sophomore, while Green added eight rebounds and a block in the rout.
Maggie Quarles chipped in 10 points and five rebounds for the Hornets.
Lynchburg shot a scalding 19-for-20 from the free throw line in the win.
The Hornets will face a tougher test tomorrow when they square off with No. 18-ranked Marymount at 4 p.m. at Daytona Beach's Ocean Center.
