Abingdon, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's golf team swept the individual podium this week at the Emory & Henry Invitational, led by freshman Lily Self's second-straight medalist honor for the first-year program.
Self finished 10-over par (75-79--154) to win the tournament by six strokes over classmate Ivy Foran, who fired a pair of 80s on her way to her best finish of the season. It was Self's second-straight tournament victory, and she has finished in the top two in each of Lynchburg's tournaments this fall.
The pair of freshmen from Bristol, Tenn., accomplished the feat at Glenrochie Country Club's par-72, 5,800-yard course, just a few miles from their homes.
Graduate student Maddie Cody finished third in the individual standings (79-83--162) as the three Hornet golfers were the only players in the field to finish less than 20 over par.
The Lynchburg team took third place (352-359--711) in the team standings, as junior Lindsay Stanley (118-117--235) rounded out the Hornet contingent.
Lynchburg's women will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 5 for a two-round day at Shenandoah University's Greene Turtle Invitational, held at Shenandoah Valley Country Club in Front Royal.
