In July 2019, the University of Lynchburg Women's Soccer program travelled to Costa Rica for the fifth time in program history with Costa Rica Soccer Tours. This trip served as a fantastic opportunity for our student-athletes to create memories together, strengthen relationships, and prepare for the upcoming season.
On this trip, players experienced the city of San Jose, the tropical area of Arenal, and finished up the trip at Flamingo Beach on the Pacific Coast! Throughout the tour, the team trained regularly and competed in multiple matches against Costa Rican professional teams. On top of these phenomenal training opportunities, the team had the opportunity to white-water raft on Costa Rican waters, zip-line over the tropical Arenal Volcano, soak in hot water springs, hike the La Fortuna Waterfall, experience the beaches of the Pacific Coast, and snorkel and relax on a catamaran cruise!
In addition to this, the team spent one day of the trip volunteering with at-risk youth in San Jose. We held a soccer clinic for 50 4th grade students, and at the end of our time together, we were able to distribute each student a brand new soccer ball. Additionally, we were able to provide the school with lots of new school supplies! This day was one of the biggest highlights of the trip for many players.
