Louisville, Ky.-- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the NCAA Division III Pre-National Invitational Saturday morning.
Lynchburg saw three top-100 finishes in the Men Silver 8k as junior Andrew Johnson finished with a personal-best time of 25:37.4 to place 62nd out of the 276-man field. Johnson bested his previous personal record by 43 seconds. Senior Shawn Gmurek finished with a time of 25:41.3 while sophomore Max Sparks came in at 25:45.4 to finish 69th and 76th, respectively.
The women's 6k race was cut short due to an official and a lead cart that lead the runners in the wrong direction. This caused the field to deviate from the initial course and the race's games committee determined that the race would be scored at 3.9 kilometers, the last split time. The results do not reflect the true times from this particular race.
Hornet junior Stephanie Burnett finished with a split of 14:42.6 for the 3.9k that the runners competed in, to place 32nd on the wrong course, but overall, Burnett finished 60th out of 253.
The Lynchburg cross country teams are back in action at the Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday, Oct. 19, hosted by Rowan University at Gloucester County Dream Park in Logan Township, N.J.
