Hornet men's soccer beats Washington and Lee to stay perfect in conference play
LEXINGTON, VA - Senior Matthew Rowe (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) scored the only goal for Lynchburg College men's soccer to give them the 1-0 win over Washington & Lee on Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Hornets are a perfect 7-0 through ODAC play so far this season.
Rowe netted the goal 8:55 into the second half, unassisted to put Lynchburg ahead 1-0. The two teams played even throughout the contest but it was Rowe's first goal of the season that was the difference maker.
Freshman Michael Releford (Blacksburg, VA/Blacksburg High School) was given the starting nod in goal, and preserved the shutout by making three saves. Releford has recorded five shutouts on the season in seven games started.
Washington & Lee goalie William Dorrance made four saves on the day.
Lynchburg (10-3-1/7-0) will host Emory & Henry University next Wednesday, Oct. 20 on Shellenberger Field at 7 p.m., for the last home game of the year.
