Shellenberger Field & Dr. Jack M. Toms Track

At the heart of Lynchburg's athletic facilities is the majestic Shellenberger Field. Named in honor of the founding men's soccer coach, Bill Shellenberger, this beautiful, newly resurfaced in 2016, field is home to Lynchburg men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, and field hockey teams. The facility features a large, new artificial turf field, a state-of-the-art eight-lane track, and a spectator capacity of 3,000. Shellenberger Field is a formidable venue for visiting teams, with chair and bleacher seating on one side of the field and residence halls on the other, where student crowds gather to cheer on their Hornets, along with "packing the track" to gain even more of an advantage. Since 2006, the field has been home to 37 ODAC championships, 40 NCAA appearances, two national runners-up, and one NCAA Division III championship.

The track was renovated in 2007 into an eight-lane synthetic surface complete with jump pits and a Steeplechase water jump. It was named after former athletic director and legendary track & field and cross country coach Dr. Jack M. Toms in 2010. The facility most recently hosted the 2022 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Just behind the video board on the north end of the field sits the Kenneth and Sheila Garren Victory Bell in its tower. Lynchburg tradition calls for teams to ring the bell in celebration of championships.

Turner Gymnasium

Built in 1969 and named in honor of John M. Turner, Class of 1929 and professor of English from 1933 to 1972, then Dean of the College from 1952 to 1972. The John M. Turner Health and Physical Education Center was renovated and expanded in 2000. New bleachers with seat backs were installed in August 2021. The building houses Lynchburg's Wayne Proffitt Court -- the home of Lynchburg's basketball and volleyball teams -- as well as a fitness center, dance and multi-purpose studio, health and human performance laboratory, athletic training facilities, classrooms, and offices for faculty and coaches.

Aubrey R. Moon Jr. Field

Aubrey Moon Field is the home of the Hornet softball team as well as the track and field throwing events. The beautifully maintained field welcomes all who enter the university from Lakeside Drive and is bordered by the Lynchburg Alumni House and the Drysdale Student Center. The gently-sloping hillside next to the field can accommodate a number of fans and bleachers can seat approximately 500.

James C. Fox Field

Home of the Lynchburg baseball team, James C. Fox Field is cut out of the natural terrain of the Lynchburg campus, adjacent to Wake Field House. The field, named for Lynchburg's longtime coach, faculty member, and administrator can accomodate approximately 1,000 fans. The Dan Wooldridge '56 Press Box sits behind the backstop.

Lynchburg Tennis Courts

Another facility to have gone through a major overhaul, the Lynchburg Tennis Courts were resurfaced at the conclusion of the summer of 2015. The six courts are located just down the hill from Fox Field.

Wake Field House

One of the most versatile facilities on campus, Wake Field House is the indoor home to the Lynchburg men's and women's track and field teams. In addition to hosting track meets, the field house can also be utilized for indoor tennis with three courts available. In 2015, state-of-the-art Sorinex strength & conditioning equipment, bought with support from Alumni donations, was added to the facility. Wake also serves as an indoor practice facility for many of the Lynchburg team sports when inclement weather prevents outdoor practices.

Hornet Indoor Golf Center

Constructed on the upper level of Wake Field House, the 1,300-sq. ft. Hornet Indoor Golf Center offers Lynchburg golfers an opportunity to train in any sort of weather. Complete with two hitting bays featuring a FlightScope XI, FlightScope MevoPro, and Trackman launch monitor systems, putting green, and locker space. This area is dedicated to making Hornet golf the best it can be in all seasons.

Lynchburg Equestrian Center

The Lynchburg Equestrian Center at Patrick Henry Family Services Farm is a 181-acre property along U.S. Route 501 in Campbell County, two miles south of Rustburg and about 14 miles from University of Lynchburg's campus. It features two existing barns, a show ring, and a significant tract of pastureland. Lynchburg is currently improving the property with a 120-foot by 250-foot covered arena and barn with more stalls to increase capacity to 35 or more horses, and trails traversing the back part of the farm. The equestrian program, winner of the 2022 National Collegiate Equestrian Association single-discipline national championship, moved into the facility in June of 2022.

Turner Gymnasium Fitness Center
