University of Lynchburg's athletic training staff, as a part of the sports medicine team, is committed to providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art, quality healthcare services dedicated to the well-being of all student-athletes. This includes the education of student-athletes on health-related topics, and the prevention, assessment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illness. Athletic trainers work under the direction and of and in collaboration with team physicians in providing care.
All staff athletic trainers are certified by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer and licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professions. All staff hold a master's degree in athletic training or exercise science, as well as certification in CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. In addition, staff are members of several professional organizations including NATA and MAATA.
The staff is assisted by graduate students enrolled in Lynchburg's Master of Science in Athletic Training program. Students complete clinical rotation assignments with Lynchburg teams, and aid the staff in providing care to student-athletes while gaining hands-on experience to further their educations. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) through the 2027-2028 academic year. To find out more about the academic side, please visit the athletic training program's website.
