Hornet volleyball defeats Sweet Briar

LYNCHBURG, VA - Lynchburg College volleyball defeated conference foe Sweet Briar College on Wednesday night (25-2, 25-19, 25-18) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

After losing to Virginia Wesleyan College on Monday, Lynchburg responded positively by only giving up two points in the first set and pacing themselves to the victory. Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Huffman (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) was the offensive leader for the Hornets. She registered eight kills off nine attempts in the match.

Sophomore setter Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) led the team with 19 assists and had three service aces on the night.  Senior Jasmine Murphy (Shipman, VA/Nelson County) had two service aces in the contest and led the Hornets with eight digs.

Other offensive leaders for the Hornets include senior Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) who had seven kills, and sophomore Mallory Stewart (Collinsville, VA/Bassett) who had six.

Lynchburg (12-8/5-2) will host Meredith College on Friday night in Turner Gym at 6:30 p.m. The Hornets have only dropped one match at home this season.
