Hornet volleyball defeats Guilford in straight sets
GREENSBORO, NC - Using a balanced offensive attack, the Lynchburg College volleyball team defeated Guilford College 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-22) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday night.
Sophomore Mallory Stewart (Collinsville, VA/Bassett) led all Hornet hitters with nine kills off 12 attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) was next on the team with eight kills off 22 attempts. Kritter also had two service aces and nine digs during the match.
Leading LC in assists was sophomore setter Brooke Moughon (Matthews, VA/Matthews) who had 18 and also had six digs with one service ace. Freshman Kristen Martin (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) who has stepped in as the Hornets' libero, led the team with 10 digs.
Sophomore setter Rachel Turk (Salem, VA/Salem) had a good night as well for Lynchburg, notching 13 assists and three service aces.
Guilford junior Mary Moody led the Quakers with 11 kills and had 10 digs as well.
Lynchburg (14-10, 7-3 ODAC) has closed out their regular season conference play and will finish the regular season with a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday. Heading to the Southern Virginia Tri-Match, the Hornets will face Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday at 2 p.m. and face Southern Virginia at 4 p.m.
