LC Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 in Double OT to Emory in Second Round
ATLANTA, GA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday losing to Emory University 1-0 in double overtime in the second round of the Division-III NCAA Tournament.
For 103 minutes both Lynchburg and Emory played to a scoreless tie, until Emory midfielder Meghan McMahon netted the game-winner from Lauren Drosick to end the Hornets season.
Each team had chances during regulation and senior goalkeeper Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made several key stops to keep the game scoreless. Emory goaltender Kaele Leonard made two important stops to keep Lynchburg off the board.
Lynchburg finishes the season with an 18-3-2 record following its tenth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Hornets also captured their ninth Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title with a win over Virginia Wesleyan on Nov. 6.
Senior Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) led Lynchburg this season with 15 goals and 17 assists and was also named the ODAC Player of the Year. Lynchburg's defense also held their opponents this season to 14 goals while scoring 84.
Emory (16-1-3) will now head to play Wheaton (IL) in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
