Klippstein powers LC to win over Washington & Lee
LYNCHBURG, VA - Junior Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) scored three goals as the first-seeded Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated #5 Washington & Lee University 3-0 on Wednesday night in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) semifinals.
Both teams played a scoreless first half that included several chances for both teams to score. Senior goalie Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made a highlight save at the 10:09 mark of the first half on WLU's senior midfielder Taylor Garrett that kept the game tied at zero. Bader would finish the game with three saves.
The story of the match though was Klippstein, who continued to roll after scoring five goals in the win on Saturday over eighth-seeded Guilford and now has eight goals in the tournament. The reigning ODAC Player of the Week scored the first goal of the game 10:54 into the second half off a crossing pass from senior Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson).
She would add her second 7:56 later off a free kick from the top of the box to make it 2-0. Klippstein made it a hat trick with 15:29 left in the game off a quick pass from senior Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton).
General's goaltender Emily Leary made six saves on the night. Lynchburg outshot Washington & Lee 18-4 in the contest.
The Hornets will be in action again on Saturday for the ODAC Tournament title game. Lynchburg will host Virginia Wesleyan on Shellenberger field at a time to be announced. Check http://www.lynchburg.edu/athletics throughout the week for more information.
