Hornet Men's Soccer Defeats WildCats 3-0
Will Host Hampden-Sydney for ODAC Title Saturday
LYNCHBURG, VA - Three different goal scorers led the Lynchburg College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win Wednesday night over visiting Randolph College in a semi-final game in the 2010 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. The top-seeded Hornets will host the conference title game Saturday against #7 Hampden-Sydney, a 2-1 winner over #6 Washington & Lee in the other semi-final game.
Junior Shane Spanninger (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) opened the scoring on a corner kick from Zach Ward (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) at 22:43. Donald Hart III (Springfield, VA/Paul VI) made the score 2-0 on a crossing pass from Scott Colman (pictured - Yorktown, VA/York) at 38:16 and it remained a two-goal lead into intermission.
Colman added an insurance goal with eight minutes on the game clock to finish the scoring.
Each team fired 14 shots in the contest while Randolph held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Michael Releford (Blacksburg, VA/Blacksburg) made four saves to record his seventh shutout of the year. Aaron Humphreys made five saves for Randolph (10-8-1).
Lynchburg looks to repeat as the ODAC Champion Saturday, the game time will be determined Thursday.
