LC volleyball defeats Roanoke in ODAC quarterfinals
ROANOKE, VA - The Lynchburg College volleyball team defeated Roanoke College in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) on Friday night (27-29, 25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 15-6) in a five-set thriller.
Lynchburg will now move on to the semifinal matchup on Saturday against the first-seeded Washington and Lee who defeated Emory & Henry on Friday.
Led by junior Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock), the Lynchburg offense was able to keep Roanoke from taking the match and putting an end to the Maroons season. Kritter had 12 kills of 26 attempts with no errors for a .462 hitting clip. She also had 20 digs and two service aces on the night.
Sophomore Mallory Stewart (Collinsville, VA/Bassett) had a good night as well, recording 10 kills of 16 attempts with no errors for a .625 hitting percentage. Stewart also contributed with the blocks having two solo blocks and assisting on two others.
Sophomore setter Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) led the team with 26 assists and had 13 digs with two service aces. Leading the team in digs on the night was freshman libero Kristen Martin (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) who had 22.
The Hornets finished the match with 11 total team blocks and hit .291 collectively. Roanoke's Kelsey Largen led the Maroons with 12 kills.
Lynchburg (18-10) will play Washington and Lee in the semifinal matchup on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. The championship game will take place on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. For full detailed information on the tournament, click here.
