Lynchburg volleyball wins two straight on Saturday
LYNCHBURG, VA. - Riding a five-match winning streak coming into this weekend, Lynchburg volleyball extended that streak to seven matches as they defeated Rutgers-Camden (25-8, 25-20, 25-13) and Southern Virginia (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) on Saturday.
Rutgers-Camden entered Turner Gym where the Hornets have been unstoppable. LC has not lost a match this season at home and has only dropped on game in that streak as well. Sophomore Rachel Huffman (Virginia Beach, VA /Bayside) who had eight kills of nine attempts with no errors led Lynchburg's offense. Sophomore setter Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) had 11 assists during the first match as well. The Hornets fed off of a balanced offensive attack and were helped out by junior Elena Kritter's (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) three service aces.
After sweeping the Lady Raptors of Rutgers-Camden, the Hornets faced off against the Southern Virginia Knights in the evening match. The Knights played LC tough, but in the end they were no match for the offense of Lynchburg. Senior Michele Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) and Huffman each had nine kills in the match and were followed closely by Kritter who had seven kills.
Moughon had 21 assists in the match and sophomore Rachel Turk (Salem, VA/Salem) pitched in with 16 assists.
Lynchburg will head to Emory & Henry on Wednesday for their second conference match of the season.
