Hornet volleyball comes up short against Haverford, Juniata
HAVERFORD, PA - Lynchburg College volleyball came into their match against Haverford College riding a eight-match winning streak, but it wasn't enough as Haverford defeated Lynchburg 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-14). The Hornets also dropped their match to current No. 2 Juniata 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) in a tri-match hosted at Haverford College on Saturday.
Lynchburg (8-5, 2-0) was carried offensively by sophomore Rebecca Loftis (Coventry, CT/Coventry) who had nine kills off of 19 attempts with two errors. She also chipped in three assists, three digs and one solo block.
Sophomore setter Brook Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) had 13 assists to lead her team and had four digs as well. Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) had one solo block in the contest. Senior Jasmine Murphy (Shipman, VA/Nelson County) led the Hornets in digs with nine in the first match.
Lynchburg also was matched up with heavyweight Juniata College who was ranked second in the nation coming into Saturday. Juniata dealt Lynchburg their second loss of the day. Loftis was the leading hitter for the Hornets with six kills of 13 attempts. Rachel Turk (Salem, VA/Salem) and Murphy both led Lynchburg with 10 digs. Moughon and Turk each chipped in 10 assists as well.
The Hornets return home on Wednesday to host Washington & Lee at 6:30 p.m. in Turner Gym.
