Hornet Volleyball Outlasts W&L in Five-Set ODAC win
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College volleyball team rallied in the fifth and final set to defeat visiting Washington & Lee University 25-20, 20-25, 15-25, 25-15, 15-13 Wednesday evening in an important match at the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings. It was LC's first conference win over the Generals since the 2000 season, and keeps the Hornets unbeaten in ODAC play at 3-0.
The Hornets trailed 12-7 in the fifth game, but after notching a point on a W&L serve, Lynchburg scored six straight points on the serve of junior Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) to take a 14-12 lead. After a General point, senior Michelle Boucher (pictured - Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) slammed down the winning kill from an assist by Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews).
Boucher and Rebecca Loftis (Coventry, CT/Coventry) tied for the team-high with 11 kills, and Rachel Huffman (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) had 10. Kritter had nine kills and 20 digs, while Moughon had a team-best 35 assists with 11 digs. Jasmine Murphy (Shipman, VA/Nelson County) added 29 digs.
The Hornets (9-6) travel to Roanoke College Saturday at noon for another ODAC match.
