LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team battled Eastern Mennonite University to a 1-1 double overtime tie Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tilt on Homecoming Weekend. The program's seven seniors were recognized prior to the start of play.
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first as freshman Josh Hinkle scored at 11:12 from senior Kyle Symczak. The Royals countered with a score seven minutes later as Philip Yoder found the back of the net on a feed from Mitchell Leap. Neither team could score in the rest of regulation or in either of the two 10-minute overtime periods. The Hornet offense was hampered by 11 off-sides penalties in the 110 minutes of play.
EMU (8-7-2/6-2-1 ODAC) held a 21-14 edge in total shots and the Royals were awarded five corner kicks (four in overtime) to Lynchburg's three. Each team played two goalkeepers, as senior Ricky Guardiani and Michael Releford combined to make 10 saves for the Hornets and Patrick Fox and Andre Yoder made two saves.
The Hornets (5-7-4/3-2-4 ODAC) travel to Virginia Wesleyan College for an ODAC match Tuesday at 7 p.m.
