Dupuy Sets School Record as LC Beats Christopher Newport 3-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshman Dessi Dupuy set a new school record for most goals in a season on Wednesday as she scored a goal to help the Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeat Christopher Newport University 3-0 in non-conference action.

Dupuy now has 26 goals this season, breaking Karen O'Connor's previous record of 25 goals in 1997.

Lynchburg took the initial lead at 8:44 of the first half as senior Brittany Klippstein fed Dupuy off a corner kick. Dupuy headed it past Christopher Newport goalie Meghan Gumbs for her record-breaking goal.

Coming out of halftime with a 1-0 lead, the Hornets extended their lead when the Captains netted an own goal at 60:24. Senior Jessica Mader tallied a score at 64:18 to put Lynchburg up 3-0 for the final score.

Gumbs made six total saves for Christopher Newport (7-7-1) on the evening. Lynchburg outshot the Captains 21-4 in the game.

LC finishes the regular season with an overall record of 16-2-1 and an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) record of 10-0-1. With the number one seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament, Lynchburg will host #8 Emory & Henry College on Saturday in the quarterfinal round on Shellenberger Field at 2 p.m.
