Hornet Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker to R-MC
LEXINGTON, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker Saturday afternoon to Randolph-Macon College in the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament, hosted by Washington & Lee University.
The Hornets captured the first set 25-15, but the Yellow Jackets took the second 25-18. LC went ahead two games to one with a 25-21 victory in the third, but R-MC rallied to sweep the last two sets, 25-17, 15-8.
Junior Rebecca Loftis enjoyed a fine afternoon for the Hornets, slamming 16 kills with only four errors. Freshman Aricquel Payne delivered 15 kills, while senior Elena Kritter had nine kills and 20 digs. Junior Rachel Turk had 29 assists and nine digs and Brooke Moughon had 23. Loftis was named to the all-tournament team.
Tori Puryear had a game-high 19 kills for R-MC (21-5), with only one error in 28 attempts. Mallory Carter had 18 kills and 12 digs.
The Yellow Jackets (21-5) advance into the finals of the tournament and face top-seeded W&L at 5 p.m. for the conference title.
The Hornets end the season with a 21-9 record.
