Three Hornets Score Twice in 9-0 Win over Sweet Briar
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's soccer team opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a 9-0 win over the visiting Sweet Briar College Vixens on Saturday afternoon.
Three Hornets scored twice to propel the victory. Senior Jessica Mader, junior Kristen Melchiori, and freshman Dessi Dupuy all tallied two goals for the Hornets. Melchiori opened up the scoring 1:07 into the game. Mader would follow suit seven minutes later off a cross from senior Joanie Snyder. Dupuy would put in her first goal one minute later, with Melchiori tallying her second at 10:39 of the first half. The Hornets would score twice more before the intermission, with junior Shelley Hoath and freshman Dana Nelsen each netting their attempts.
Mader opened up the second half scoring 21 seconds in, and Dupuy added her second three minutes later. Senior Brittany Klippstein finished off the scoring for the Hornets off a corner kick from Melchiori at 56:03.
The Vixens (1-3 overall, 0-1 ODAC) were led by sophomore goalie Lindsey Wilson, who recorded 15 saves for the game.
Lynchburg (4-2, 1-0) hosts Bridewater (Va.) College on Shellenberger Field, Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
