#2 Lynchburg Men's Soccer Begins Season with 2-0 Win Over Emory
ROANOKE, VA – The 2nd-ranked Lynchburg College men's soccer team began the 2011 season with a 2-0 win over 18th-Ranked Emory University in the Roanoke College Invitational on Friday night.
Lynchburg took a 1-0 lead on the Eagles at 1:19 of the first half when Emory put the ball in their own net, resulting in an early lead for the Hornets. Freshman Luke Moore scored his first collegiate goal at 49:07 off a pass from sophomore Michael Venegas of the second half to give Lynchburg a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Michael Releford made four saves in the game for Lynchburg. Trenton Splinder made one save in the loss for Emory.
Both teams squared off twice in 2010 with each squad earning a victory. Lynchburg defeated the Eagles 2-1 in the second-round of the NCAA tournament en-route to the national championship game.
Lynchburg faces The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey tomorrow in the Roanoke College Invitational at 5 pm.
